Most families sense that something important is missing for boys as they grow. Not information. Not activity. But guidance that actually forms character over time.
Voyage Rites exists to restore something that used to be common sense. Rites of passage for boys entering manhood were once a natural part of societies for thousands of years. Their absence in modern Western culture has left a real gap, and we are seeing the effects of that gap in families, churches, and communities.
My work centers on helping fathers and mentors step back into their role as guides, walking with boys as they grow toward responsibility, maturity, and biblical manhood.
WHO THIS IS FOR
This message resonates most with fathers, mentors, and church leaders who care deeply about the next generation and feel the weight of that responsibility.
It is especially helpful for families raising boys in the years before adolescence, for men who want to lead without passivity or control, and for churches that want to move beyond one time events toward intentional formation.
FORMATS
I speak in a variety of settings depending on the needs of the community.
Sunday messages and men’s gatherings Conference keynotes Workshops and leadership training Father son or family events Youth events with parents present
Where appropriate, I also provide optional follow up resources for families.
WHAT I SPEAK ON
Formation Before Initiation Why boys need presence, rhythm, and responsibility before pressure or performance, and how fathers quietly prepare their sons for what is coming.
The Father’s Role in Forming Godly Men A practical and grounded look at what it means for men to protect, provide, and lead with steadiness over time.
A Clear Path to Manhood How belonging, formation, responsibility, initiation, and mission fit together, and why recognizing manhood matters as much as teaching it.
Restoring Rites of Passage in Families and Churches Why rites of passage matter, what they are not, and how communities can reintroduce them without spectacle or pressure.
ABOUT COACH DANIEL
Coach Dan Smith is living his mission and purpose to develop boys into men.
After a fourteen year career in law enforcement at both the local and federal level, Dan stepped away from that chapter after walking through his own masculine journey and discovering where his heart and calling truly were.
As a father to three boys, he wants his sons to grow up in a world of men who no longer behave as boys, but who emulate godly manhood by protecting, providing, and leading.
Dan achieved his coaching certification and experience through the Apogee Strong Men’s program, where he served as a men’s coach and live event facilitator. He currently serves as the Kids Ministry Director at Freedom Church in Stafford, Virginia, where he focuses on forming the next generation.
He is also passionate about reaching men for Christ and co founded the Eleventh Hour Alliance, a nonprofit serving men’s ministries.
ABOUT VOYAGE RITES
Coach Dan started Voyage Rites in 2024 to spark a movement of rites of passage, equipping fathers and mentors with faith based tools to guide boys into biblical manhood.
Through scalable curricula, personal coaching, and strategic partnerships, Voyage Rites empowers communities including churches, schools, businesses, and families to raise mighty men.
